During World War II : During World War II an innovative coastal defense device, utilizing the sea-side terrain, was devised in order to provide coastal protection against the vulnerability of tanks landing in the vicinity of the region in the absence of natural coastal defenses. The concept was adopted in 1939 in response to possible German invasion in the region.
